Bought washing machine online...

from Curry's, said 2-4 weeks delivery, they have taken payment via credit card. I received an email says Curry's will contact me when the item is in stock and arrange a delivery date.
It has now been 28 days since I ordered and had no email or correspondance with Curry's.
What are the chances they will deliver?
I thought they must contact me before 30 days, either deliver the order, offer a refund or ask me to wait longer. If it goes after 30 days and I make contact with them to remind them they have taken my money 30 days ago and not delivery are they in breech of any consumer right laws? Can I demand a washing machine or some compensation?
From what ive read they will contact me before 30 days are up and give me a refund. (Which is not good as they have had my money for 30 days and ive been without a washing machine).

Have you contacted them to ask if delivery has been scheduled yet?
This kind of thing is frustrating but not uncommon. If the date of delivery is deemed a material part of the contract, e.g. you've ordered something for a specific date, such as a wedding, and it's been agreed that the date must be met, you can try arguing that contract has been breached. Usually in terms of things like washing machines, furniture etc. a certain amount of leeway is accepted and it's only breach of contract if you've been lured into buying something specifically on the grounds of an advertised delivery, e.g. 'Order a sofa by 15th November and receive it in time for Christmas. Guaranteed!'.
I think you should contact them and ask when your washing machine will be delivered. Point out that you're being inconvenienced. Perhaps they'll offer you something, a replacement machine to borrow, free delivery (if there was a charge) or perhaps some money off. TBH, Currys isn't famed for its customer service so I doubt you'll get much out of them.
But I don't think you can worry about any of that until you've spoken to them. What if they deliver tomorrow? BTW, best not to 'demand' anything. It tends to go down better if you simply ask.
BTW, as it was an online order, you can cancel if you want to under the DSR. But that might seem a little churlish if the washing machine is on its way."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
I have been tracking the progress of the order via their tracking site knowhow.com. I put the tracking code in and each day it says:Order In Progress:
Firstly a big thanks for your order.
We've received your order and as soon your item is in stock we'll be in touch
to arrange a delivery time to suit you.
I would not mind waiting 30 days but if they have taken my money and then at the end say they cannot deliver they have no alternative item at a similar price and all they can do is offer my money back (Item was reduced and at a very good price).
Can websites just put up items for sale at reduced prices saying delivery in 2-4 weeks, take your money via credit card on the first day, then 30 days later say the item is not in stock and we offer you your money back?0 -
Yes if you want a refund and the item cannot be sourced anymore, it could be the item sold out quickly and they ran out of stock and are waiting for new stock, or maybe the supplier has no stock to send to curry's to fulfil the orders. Your best bet is to contact them to find out whats going on and if they have stock in or when.0

They may have lets say 10 of these washing machines in stock when you ordered, but you were the 11th person to order, but their system is set to take the funds straight away and not on dispatch (have you checked if they have done this) so they are awaiting a new shipment to cover your order, until this arrives with them they cant commit a delivery date to you. Contact them and ask when they expect this to be delivered and if they cant commit then cancel the order under the DSR and go elsewhere.0 -
Was it a Hotpoint washer?
I bought a Hotpoint cooker from them not long ago and was told it would be 2-6 weeks for delivery and that most of their Hotpoint range are delivered directly by the manufacturer and are imported on special order, I was told they collect the orders and send them through to Hotpoint once a fortnight as a batch order and they get imported and delivered out to the customers from there.
I was lucky and got mine after four weeks but would have happily waited a few months if I had to as it was the exact one I wanted and a lot cheaper then getting it elsewhere.0 -

Funny you say that YES is was. Glad to see you got your order delivered.
Im happy to wait too, just as long as I get the washing machine at the price I paid for it, within 4-6 weeks of ordering it. More than that and I think family members will start to complain about hand washing everything.0 -

No, but very interesting reading the comments in the link.
Machine I ordered was 8kg for £160. Been 29 days now, I emailed them yesterday and await a response.0 -
I emailed Currys 4 days ago asking about the status of my order. No reply except the automated one.
I posted on their facebook with my customer reference number this morning. I await a reply.
I refuse to ring them on their 0845 number and wait 20 minutes on hold. What other options do I have?0 -
