Chester - any suggestions?

We need a one night stay in Chester in November and its proving problematic.
There are 4 of us, adults. We don't mind all sharing one room or the 2 girls in one room, 2 boys in another. Ideally we want to be city centre so we can use the train and don't have to worry about parking.
I was hoping to see if we could get a holiday let but none of them allow one night stays - I emailed about 11 yesterday and only half have responded. One did look suitable but you had to check in by 5 or pay a £10 penalty for late check in.
Even the usual Premier Inn and Travelodge is coming up at almost £140 for 2 rooms for the night. There are 2 Premier Inns outside the city much cheaper but then we would need to get a taxi to get into Chester in the morning so that brings us back to the traffic problem
We have a 9.30 in the morning appointment so this is why we are thinking of staying the night before. We only actually live 50 miles away but its an hour by road plus the traffic stress and the cost of parking. Or 20 mins by train plus time to get across the city so an early start.
When the eldest graduated in York a couple of years ago we got a lovley modern luxury apartment for 5 of us within easy walking distance of everything for £222 for 3 nights and I was hoping to do something similar this time but its not proving to be as easy ...

You don't say what date you're looking at but I'm assuming it's week commencing 4 November. Have a look at www.millhotel.com which has family rooms at £120 at the moment for that week. One king size bed, one single and one pull out. Breakfast is included in the price, it's a buffet breakfast so no hanging about. The hotel is a 5 minute walk to the city centre, and has a large free car park (just in case you decide to take the car instead of the train).
I can assure you I have no connection with the hotel, I'm just mentioning it because it's reasonably priced and within easy walking distance, and has good reviews.
Alternatively, you could see if the tourist information board can come up with anything, or look at the many b & b's along Hoole Road though it's further out so you would have to allow longer for walking.0 -
Have you tried the Express by Holiday Inn at the racecourse? Your breakfast is included and you can walk into the centre. There is free parking at it if you wanted to drive there too.Mar Wins :- £2 GfK Media

If you're really struggling one option for the driving is to remember that there are 4 Park & Rides. They're all on main routes outside the city centre and early on a saturday morning shouldn't be too bad to get to. The buses run early (their timetables are online) and they cost £2 per adult for the parking and return bus journey. I drive into Chester regularly and can't think of the last time I drove into the city itself0

Also, Travelodge are likely to have a sale for that booking period quite soon. If you sign up for their e-mails you'll be notified and can check the price for the night you need0
