Renting home and renting landline

Hi I'm moving homes in just under two weeks and need some help on the line rental side of things and moving broadband.

I know the property has a phone socket but because its not occupied no one is renting the line obviously and so its a dead line.

I was wondering if I rent the line again from the same socket, would it have the same phone number as before because I'm not sure if the landlord will be happy with a different phone number...

The reason I need to sort this out now instead of once I move in is because my broadband takes two weeks to move and so I want to use the internet as soon as I move in.

Has anyone gone through the same scenario? How did you sort it out?

I hope other people would be more helpful, but my first thought would be to ring the telephone company and talk about a trasnfer. You may be able to keep your own number. The landlord surely won't mind what phone number is with the property, but if it's say a friend you are renting from short term or another reason to think they would want a specific number, maybe it's worth discussing it with them?
