Cheapbedsale on ebay..not so cheap!

I bought a divan base on ebay through the cheapbedsale shop. I had my own new mattress so just needed a base. The bed started to feel a bit creeky and lumpy after 9 weeks use. I removed the mattress to find that the boards on top of the divan base had all caved in and were of the thinnest MDF you can get. the bed had only bed slept on by one average sized person and occasionally my baby niece. I complained to the shop, sending photos of the issue and was told that they would charge me £55 to collect the bed, check it and would replace if the fault was theirs. But if it wasn't faulty they would charge me to re deliver.
I am disgusted that they can get away with this. They are making products with the poorest materials , covering them in fabric and selling on, to then get more money when the product fails.
Does anyone have any advice as to what i can do? My ebay protection is over, as 90 days have passed. I'm still within my 6 months statutory rights period, but if the only way they will proceed means I am out of pocket even more, I am stumped!

Cheap no longer means cheap - pay a bit more and get quality

yes get some 3 ply from any hardware store. If your base has drawers then get yourself a length of 2 x 2 and take the drawers out and get someone to apply to 2 x 2 along the length of the bed to help support and strengthen the base under the new ply base.0 -
Erm what? I wouldn't have that at all. So they will charge you £55 to return a faulty item? After 9 weeks, I'd go down small claims myself.0
