Virgin lied to me.

I was going to go with someone else when my contract was coming to an end with Virgin, however a guy pushed me into going with them an extra year over the phone. He said he will chuck in free weekend calls with the phone line. And where he lied was he said so that is free after 7pm Friday till the end of Sunday night. And I have just noticed that it is actually not free on Friday nights and I have been making many calls during these times and been charged quite a bit for what was supposed to be free. Incredible how this guy lied and he must have known what weekend hours are with Virgin. I am writing a letter of complaint but I do not have a clue what to do if they do not refund my money. Any advice? One thing I will be doing is changing to someone else once this years contract has finished but I am currently unemployed and my bill is about 25 pounds more than what it should have been had what the man told me been true. Has this kind of thing happened to anyone else?

One puerson's lie is another's mistake. If he set out to mislead you, then perhaps - but it is an easy mistake to make. BT, who introducd the concept made it run from Fri 1900 to Mon 0700, and I agree the expectation is to follow this.
The answer is to check VM's residential tariff document - however having just checked this, I can find no reference to be actual time bands used for Weekend - so complain that it is not clear, and ask for a rebate.0
