Appealing Against A Tax Credit Decision

Might it help if you worked, say 60 hours a week? Would that increase your income at all, or is the amount you're now earning just about the limit?
ETA: I have nothing against writers. I'm married to a successful one.
But he didn't just decide to do it for 30 hours a week and hope to make a living. He had a family to support, so at the start put in at least double that every week to get the work in and to get his name known and works more than full-time hours now. Being a writer, and getting people to pay for your words, is not easy.0 -

One they don't pay for or pay peanuts?0 -
Yes, the rule is, if you are working under 16 hrs pwk and getting paid, you don't need to sign off, but just fill in a form at the jobcentre etc. Of course, if you work over 16hrs pwk, you then have to sign off.
What I was trying to say Truegho - is that if you are setting up a business - you obviously have a business plan to ensure that it is a viable business, that can succeed. If (from what you are saying) your business can only survive if you are getting government benefits then surely there is something seriously wrong with your plan or the business idea.0 -
So what sort of books do you write then? What are the titles? These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0

But my business IS a legitimate one, as I am not [/B]only selling a number of books every day on Amazon, but I am also offering a writing service to local businesses. Your reply is, sadly, indicative of the considerable amount of prejudice that seems to exist against writers on these forums. What is it about you all that you can't accept a paid, published writer as a person who is offering a perfectly legitimate service???
Link please. I am intrigued!Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
I have a feeling that details of both the books and the "writing service" are unlikely to be forthcoming.0

No offense, but I don't wish you luck in getting anywhere with your appeal. If you waste as much time with your business that you count within the 30 hours rule as you do here posting the same old thing here over and over, then I don't see how an appeal will be justified.
I do wish you luck with your business and hope that it does take off and you can make a living from it, but expecting tax payers to support you when it has been deemed that it is not viable is a different matter. If you are so confident as to the success of your business, why don't you do what business starters used to do, convince your bank to lend you money to get it going.0 -

Why would anyone need a bank loan to write?
If the OP really can't get a job and write alongside it, I really don't see why he can't claim JSA and declare any earnings, as has already been suggested. I have a feeling that the Work Programme may come into this somewhere.0 -

Sure does. He's been on the WP for 2 years.

And he claims that he DOES work 30 hours on it, so couldn't sign any agreement saying that he agrees to look for full-time positions.0
