Relocating and need advice.

Hi. I am currently living in York and my partner has just been offered a job down in London where he would be earning around 29K. He currently earns around 20K. We would love him to take the job as we would like to live down south and job has a good career path. However this would mean that I give up my part-time job which brings in about 5K a year. At the moment our overall yearly income is around 30K including tax credits. I'm assuming we would lose tax credits too. Could anyone advise me as to what benefits could help us when we initially get down there as it will take a while for me to find a new job and sort out childcare for our 2 children.

  • No you would not lose tax credits as such, but you would lose the child care element for a while if you did not have a job for a while as you would be home to look after them. That is until you got a part time job and them a childcare provider.
  • Thanks for the reply. I thought both parents have to be in work to claim tax credits. That is a relief if we can still claim.
