DNS server isn't working

Apologies if this has already been a topic on here but I have to go out in 15 minutes, I've only just gained internet access again and I don't have the time for a search. I'm also not very computer savvy!
I use a wireless laptop and I believe that my computer is attached to my router via an ethernet cable. My internet provider is EE (Orange). I very rarely use the computer anymore, usually using the laptop in my living room away from the router etc.
I have had no previous problems, I did get a new router from EE about 4 months ago when i changed my subscription but all's been well.
Yesterday I was unable to connect to the internet and the message that came up was "DNS server isn't working". Today all so far appears ok. Is this something that I need to be looking into? Is it an EE problem, a router issue etc? Would be greatful for and advice in words that I can understand! LOL
Hopefully I will be able to see and answers when I get back later today. Have a good day and thanks in advance

It's an ISP problem. The DNS (Domain Name Server) server indexes the web site name that you type in against the actual numerical address of the site you want, then sends it back and directs you to the correct site.
Google 'DNS lookup' for further info.No free lunch, and no free laptop
