I the straps come off run them through the washing machine!

I've had lots of highchairs and they are disgusting.. I finally succumb to buying the Ikea Antilop (about £15) it is the best one EVER.. especially for smaller babies.. the tray is a nice height not under their armpits and the straps come off easily for washing. The tray and seat fit in the dishwasher if they get too grottified and sometimes I just put them through on a hot wash to kill bugs.. and the metal legs come off and get scrubbed.

the big stupid cushiony ones only LOOK nice.. they are just germ traps!

Completely agree with this. I have 3 kids under 6 and did BLW with them all. Scrub up the high chair and flog it on ebay and get the ikea one instead. Also getcouple of cheap shower curtains or even better an off cut on lino in a similar shade to your carpet for under the chair.

By the time DD3 came along we had got rid of the carpets down stairs and got vinyl flooring throughout....

We're still using our cushioned high-chair (feeding issues :( ) three years later. Our preferred method of cleaning is to put the chair in the back garden and get the hose or power-washer onto it - just blast the food out of the tight spots!

I was looking out my high chair last weekend to use for a visiting child. It hadn't been used for over 3 years. Mine is a Mothercare one (used when my grandsons visited) and does not have a removable tray. It was raining heavily so I put it up outside the back door. When the rain stopped I just wiped over and it was amazing how much dirt came off. The harness I just put in the washing machine (in a net bag) along with an ordinary cool wash.

shower curtain draped over the seat! honestly, I wonder if high chair designers have ever fed a baby? surely a moulded 'allinone' seat would be easier to clean???????????

I loved the Ikea high chair. Had a huge Fisher Price padded seat thing with my first child...hated it because it was so hard to clean (we BLW too so I know what you mean about the mess! :D ). Got an Ikea one for my second child and wish I'd had it first time round as it was so much easier.

Another vote for the ikea chair. Bought one for my fifth baby, oh how I wish I'd had one earlier. Could you not take the one you have now round to your mums? Once she's seen how hard it is to clean, I'm sure she'd understand.

We've got the IKEA one, much easier to clan than the fancy one my sister has for my niece!
Agree with the pp who suggested taking your current one to your mums. Its handy having a high chair at grannys house I've found!

Good idea to cover the whole area - including the chair itself! But a bath sheet needs washing and takes a long time (and a lot of line/radiator space) to dry. A better idea would be to use an old shower curtain or buy a really cheap one (Dunelm do one for £2.99). It's waterproof so will protect the floor from liquid spills, and you can just wipe it clean. Sorted!
