Access to account suspended

Nationwide have suspended access to one of my current accounts as a payment was made into the account by a "fraudulent/Unauthorised" account. I have no idea where the money has come from and have told them as such. I cannot access my account until they have investigated this further, although I am told that my direct debits and standing orders will continue. Is there anything I can do about this? I am the innocent party in this, but have been accused of nothing short of money laundering. How long can they keep me from accessing my account?

how much we talking, and how paid in?Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

I'm surprised they account was suspended bearing in mind the sum involved. I am with Cahoot and use this as a secondary account and last year £50,000 plus was paid into my account by a fraudster. However my account was not suspended and while an investigation was underway I could continue to use my account.
Perhaps its a question of the banks knowing their customers and going by their track record.0 -

I'm also with Nationwide and have about 4 accounts with them and so far no issues.
There is nothing you can do other than find out from them how long they envisage the investigation will take.
What happened to me was a fraudster hacked into other Cahoot accounts and deposited his/her ill gotten gains into my account in the hope the money could be transferred out quickly.0 -

The obvious assumption is that whoever paid the money in had plans for getting it out again. Meaning, your account is compromised. That's why they used it. So you don't really want it back, you want another one.
They probably won't give you one because they won't be convinced that you aren't involved, or at least negligent. Otherwise, they could have given you a new account already.

Thank you for your responses. Following a very long conversation at lunchtime, they have realised that I am unlikely to have tried to acquire such a sum of money fraudulently and have allowed me to access my account. It seems that the money was transferred in error, although reported as being de-frauded.
