I want to run a 240v supply to an external waterproof enclosure in the garden that will feed garden lights.
My question, is it acceptable to use armoured cable back to the house, terminate the armoured cable in a waterproof junction box on the outside wall, run a short length of flex from the junction box through the wall and connect to a 13A outlet via an RCD ?
I appreciate a better option would be go back to the fuse box but that's not really feasible ( and as a permananet installation would fall under Part P ? )

That is exactly how to do it if you want to avoid the part p tax, see this-

You kind of answered it yourself anyway lol.
I'll do anything legal to get away from paying the part p tax lol0 -
Don't quote me on it, but if a socket is fixed to the building (screwed to wall) then it must be deemed as permanant.
That's how the wiring regs sees it.baldly going on...0 -
Aren't fused spurs non-notifiable anyway?0

Looks like the part p rules have changed since I last looked at them.
I just found this-
check out the new part p document and look on page 9 under general guidance.
It seems even if you use a plug and the wiring is permanent then you need to notify. (in special locations)
You have three options-
ignore part p and say it was done years ago.
Notify and pay part p tax.

For info, there's a new wiki on taking electricity outdoors from the chaps at uk.diy. It's very good:
