Had to take out Buildings & Contents Insurance with my Mortgage

When I got my mortgage I had to sign up for buildings and contents insurance through Legal & General as part of the acceptance. I didn't want too as obviously it was cheaper elsewhere but I was told the I HAD to for the first year in order to be accepted - and then I could change.
Is this something I can claim back?
I can't find anywhere on here to fill in the forms myself etc.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

No. Lenders are allowed to insist on building insurance and all still do. In the past, some required you to use their insurance. At other times, there have been mortgage deals where the lender insisted you use their product for at least one year to get the special terms. That is allowed.I didn't want too as obviously it was cheaper elsewhere but I was told the I HAD to for the first year in order to be accepted - and then I could change.
Sounds like one of these special deal packages.I can't find anywhere on here to fill in the forms myself etc.

Thanks for your speedy replies. At least I now know not to waste any more time thinking about it. Cheers, Dan.0
