Clean any dirt or green stuff off it. Wipe down with white spirit. Don't "sand" it. Two coats of high gloss slightly thinned straight on. No undercoat.

    Cheers

Should have added that you could also try Bedec multi-surface paint instead of gloss.

Because plastic pipes expand and contract with heat. Gloss is flexible. U/C is not. The U/C will crack and when it does depart company with the plastic. When that happens the gloss which is adhered to the U/C comes off too.

Its the same with exposed CH copper pipework. You don't U/C that either for the same reason. Gloss straight onto clean copper.

    Excellent explanation KS, ta muchly.

Does the same apply to weathershield 'flexible' system or do we believe the hype - the monkey behind the counter didn't have a clue (unsuprisingly)

Only problem is once you do paint them, you have a job for life:rotfl:

I think it's wrong to make a longterm maintenance project out of what are intended to be fit and forget systems.. Still remeber several homes we had with cast iron pipes.

Sorry KS, it's not a pop, I just feel strongly about homes being as maintenance free as possible.

Even the dreaded brown down pipes which always fade and matt out can be brought back to life with an abrasive solvent rub.

Question on brown pipe work systems, why do the pipes affected as above, but the fitting remain bright and shiney???

Must be something different in the casting mix as against the extrusion blend.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

No need to be sorry. OP asked about painting them to which I gave an answer. He didn't ask about painting them or not painting them. That might have produced a different answer. I don't try and second guess the motive for the question (often :D).
