Ppi how to get old dat held by bank HSBC

Hi, I have completed the forms and sent to HSBC for a car loan in 1987, at the time there was an option to take the pPI but if you did not as an 18 year old I was told that I would not get the loan for £3000.
The issue is I do not have the policy number or the loan number, HSBC said in the returned letter that we only keep records for 6 years. So unless I have the original paper work '' please go away"
Any ideas how I can progress this claim? And find out the loan info?

You are expecting them to have kept info for 28 years....
It's probably a waste of £10 but it's your money so the only way to check they are telling the truth is to send a SAR and £10 - see the front page for a template.
Expect to say bye bye to that tenner and have nothing to show for it.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0
