I am asking for advice on behalf of a friend.
She has just rented a house as she is working in the South & she still owns her house in the North. She has asked her daughter to move into her house, but she is not charging her rent. Can she renew her house insurance as normal or does she have to get Landlords Insurance ? Does she also have to inform her mortgage lender ?
Is there anything else she should be doing ?
Thanks for any info.

A property being occupied by a family member would not normally require landlord insurance, nor require consent to let from a lender.
However, for reassurance, she should check with her insurer as she is no longer residing there and there could be an issue if a claim is made.I am a mortgage broker. The policy holder normally has to be a permanent resident in the home.
As there is a family member living in the home there may not be an issue but it would be best to check with the insurer to be sure.0
