Shareholder or not?

My husband has just informed me that back in the 1980s he bought shares in BUNZL and can't ever remember selling them.
We have been together 26 years and I don't ever remember seeing any paperwork relating to shares.
How do we go about finding out if he is a shareholder?
And if he is, how do we apply for new documentation?
Could we be loaded and not know it? (she says with big old pound signs in her eyes)

The registrar is Computershare so these would be the best people to contact. They should be able to answer your questions about documentation if he is indeed a shareholder.
Not a bad share to have owned all this time if he is right:0 -
Thank you all for your quick responses. My husband will be calling the registrar this evening.
Another quick question.
He thinks he bought the shares in 1984/1985, he would have been around 20 years old and not earning huge sums of money as a vehicle body repairer, so I'm assuming he maybe bought 100 shares, which for some reason I believe is the smallest amount you can buy, correct me if I'm wrong.
How do I find out what the share price was in 1984/1985?
I will update you with good/bad news as soon as I have it.

Some markets have rules that shares must be traded in round "lots" (with the lot size set by the exchange) but the London Stock Exchange isn't currently one of them. You can if you like go and buy 1 share. I don't know what the rules were in the mid 80's though.
The earliest I can find prices for is 1988 (on Yahoo Finance) sorry. I can't think off the top of my head where you'd get prices for before that. Perhaps the registrar or old newspapers that carried share prices?0
