Anyone understand Scottish SQA results?

Hi all

My son got his exam results today. He got grade 2 for four subjects. I thought that meant he would be able to do higher in 5th year. Now I think I am wrong because his SCQF level of 5 means he is intermediate 2.

Can anyone give me guidance/help?

What has he said? Pupils normally understand much more than the parents, even after it has been explained!

Level 5 is equivalent to a 'Credit' level Standard Grade (which is a 1 or a 2 result) or an Intermediate 2 qualification. That is what he currently has. So there should be nothing stopping him from pursuing what he wants to do next year.

Standard grades are 1 & 2 for credit, 3 & 4 for general, 5 & 6 for foundation and 7 for fail. Credit is equivalent to intermediate 2 and general is equivalent to intermediate 1.

With grade 2's he should easily be able to progress to the higher.

Thanks for your responses. I wasn't sure what the SCQF part meant. He got a 5 for maths, physics, chemistry, computing science. They all had Grade 2 on the certificate. He wants to take maths and computing science as higher. I'd love him to do physics too but he not keen. He has no idea what he wants to do but then he has 2 more years of high school.

I am pants at understanding the new system. He s really chuffed with the result though.

    from chatting with my daughter-

Standard Grades are sat at either Credit ( a 1 or a 2 required to pass) , General ( 3 or 4) or foundation.

That your son got 4 x 2's means he has achieved 4 x Credit Passes at Standard Grade - so he will be able to study for his chosen Highers.

An Intermediate 2 is the level in between Standard Grade and Higher, these are Graded with letters ( A,B,C etc).

    Hope this helps.

Congratulations to your son for his results - we are celebrating as well this evening :) :j

    :D congratulations to you.

I took the envelope off postie this morning. I swapped it for chocolate in the hope that we were actually swapping good things :D. Postie was chuffed.

My son's face was a picture when he opened the envelope. His face went scarlet. Am so chuffed for him. He is quite a shy boy so this is helpful for his self esteem.

Thanks so much for your guidance. I love this website. Whatever I don't understand, someone here s always willing to help.

My daughter is working down south for the summer with her elder brother, who runs a hotel.

We had the unveiling, a millimetre at a time, over Skype, but on first attempt, I only produced the covering letter, much to her angst !

Gosh, I couldn't let jack out of my sight for the summer. I so wish I could loosen the grip. Maybe now that I KNOW he's not a dunce I can set him free

She's the 3rd, of 4 - and her two elder brothers ( 23 and 21) are down there watching her every move. Otherwise, she wouldn't be far :)
