Halifax - Unauthorised use of card

Hoping someone can give us some advise, thanks.
Hubby received an email offering a special offer price of £1.99 for some muscle tablets (I know, I know, I've gone nuts!) he gave the card details and they deducted £3.98 form our bank account.
We then went on holiday.
When we came back, I checked our account and we were missing £170 from our available balance. Upon calling the bank, they put us through to the fraud squad, who confirmed that the same company had the funds pending.
Hubby called the company, which says the price was valid for 14 days if not happy return goods within that timescale, otherwise full payment would be taken!
It doesn't say this anywhere on the confirmation email that he received. THey offered him a fund of £60!!!
We went to the local Halifax in a attempt to stop the payment and completed necessary forms etc...
This morning, they have taken the funds.
Where do we stand? We have no goods and no money and we certainly didn't authorise the full payment to be taken.
Do we contact the fraud squad again?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

If you don't have the goods then you can try a charge back.

I take it that he did not read that T/C that state that unless you cancel and return within 14 days you get debited on a monthly basis. So he did AUTHORISE the payment.

These are very well known... Only just expanding onto male products. Been all female related for several years now :)

    It is not fraud....

You have no chargeback right on them * (see below for poss chargeback).

I take it he got the FREE TRIAL product?
The £170 is a charge for the sample product that was a FREE TRIAL of the product for 14 days. After which you get charged the full price.

He needs to tall Halifax that he wishes to end the agreement. If they then take any more funds next month. Then they can be returned to the retailer and you will be credited.
For a refund he needs to contact the company and return the goods to them.

Halifax may attempt a chargeback for non receipt of goods 15 days after the large debit. But be aware that the company can reject this with a copy of the agreed T/C as proof that hubby was aware of the on going monthly charge.
If they reject you would be redebited.

    Hi Dalesrider
We don't have the goods, we were away when the delivery would have been made, so we've had no free trial, no goods and from what you're saying have now lost £170...

Surely if the goods are returned to them, having not been delivered, they can't charge you?

As said already, you can try going down the "non receipt of goods" route, but since the product probably costs about £3 to make (total guess based on similar products) and they are making £170 they could just send you another batch.

Try it though, the worse thing that'll happen is you lose. It will not cost you anything extra to try!

The other game on this one is to make it impossible for you to return the goods even if you do get them in the first place.
So they put a return address in say Syria or a similarly unlikely place.
Not surpisingly whatever you do in terms of posting them, courier them, take them back in person(!) they will claim they were never received back.

We spoke to the bank today that's looking into it, as we asked them to stop the payment, whilst it was 'pending' in the system.
We have to call them back tomorrow, to see what they say.
    Thanks
