Standard Charge for BookKeeping

Options
Hi Lovely MSE Peeps

Im looking to become a virtual BookKeeper, how much is the standard going rate for a book keeper.

I have been in finance for 13 years and looking to make a little extra every month using my skills.

Im qualified to AAT Technician standard.

Your thoughts would be greatly received.

    define virtual book keeper?

I suppose it depends as to what stage you can get accounts to ?

I know i have been quoted £15 / hr for someone who can get the accounts to sign off stage

You would be better off advertising in your local paper. Anyone who responds with a specific requirement, work out the time it would take you, the value you wish to value yourself, then you have your price.

You will more than likely find 15/20 per hour is right.

    Virtual? Isn't that, like, online?

Can't you look yourself to see what the online prices are?

Really depends on what level you take it.

Basic book-keepers, i.e. those that just enter piles of invoices onto Sage, and don't do proper reconciliations of the bank, creditors & debtors ageings, etc., i.e. just basic data entry clerks, will be as little at £10 -£15 per hour.

If you do more, i.e. the reconciliations, VAT returns, payroll submissions, etc., then probably more £15-£20 per hour.

If you take things further, i.e. management accounts, reversals postings, etc., then probably £20-£25 per hour, for more of a "finance manager" role than data entry.

Will also depend on your locality.

Will also depend on your locality. Also depends on whether you use your own software (which you pay for) or the client's software (which they pay for).

Don't forget about your overheads, i.e. PI insurance, money laundering regs, ongoing CPD, and software - soon mounts up - your first few clients will be paying your overheads, then you make your profits from the rest!
