Help to understand Nexus 7

I have recently been given a Nexus7 32GB as a present. Looks great really pleased but it's not 3G.
What I would like to be able to understand is, can I get some form of Dongle to go online anywhere, similar to one I have on my old laptop. This Nexus has only a charging port so there's nowhere to plug anything into except the charging port. So I am reliant on hot spot locations, so I can't use it at work. Am I missing something? I really can't get my head around this.

you have some options - one is to only use it where there is wireless internet available - or if you can use your mobile phone for "tethering" you could do that.
Tethering is adjusing the settings in your mobile phone to turn it into a wireless hotspot which other wireless equipment such as the Nexus can access the net through. You need first to confirm that your mobile signal provider allows tethering and what your data allowance is.
The other option is to buy a mobile hotspot system such as one made by Huawei - or one sold by one of the mobile providers such as "3" or "O2".
if you google these you will get some more info on themJohn0 -

what type of phone have you got? a lot of modern phones are able to share their internet connectionThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I have one and have not "needed" 3g yet.
Although there are some places it would be useful I.E. when using satnav for the live services.
I can use a mifi device for this, but then the least I can use one of those is at £5 a month with giffgaff.0 -

No we don't unfortunately... Or none that we have access to. I was just thinking it would be integrated, not realising that the one purchased was not 3G
