MINT Credit Cards being closed down?

I have a MINT credit card which has remained unused for nearly 2 years with the balance on zero, and a £5600 credit limit. Had the card for quiet a few years, almost since they first came on the market.

I did not realise until I got a paypal reminder of an expiring card during July that the card was due to expire. Here we are in August and no replacement card. When I login to the online account, I get a warning about not all features being available. The account balance is still zero and still seems to be open.

Could RBS have closed the account because of lack of use, especially given that they have not issued MINT cards for quiet sometime now?. I wonder if they are waiting for the next statement date to issue a final statement before closing the account.

They probably have cancelled the card due to dormancy.

It would be best to call them to confirm
    Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48
  • Well thats sorted now.

Basically as mentioned by izools and suspected by me, the account had been frozen due to lack of use. 5 mins on the phone, and account is now status normal and a new card will be with me in 7 to 10 days.

Since you clearly aren't using it, why not just close the account? Unless it's your oldest, it'll free up the available credit for any future applications you might want to make?

The problem is I guess, that a few years ago I was in a financial mess. The whole situation is much better now, I have never missed any payments and always paid more than the minimum.

3 years ago I owed way over 100% of my salary in unsecured debt, today its substantially less than that, and actually now less than my annual salary, but not yet down to 50% of my salary. Its getting there, but I don't think my current debt level would allow for another CC.

If I were to cancel this CC, then I would be left with just a single active card which is currently at 80% of its very high credit limit. I am currently working on paying this down. Keeping the Mint card active, even with a zero balance keeps my debt to available credit at a reasonable level.

    3 years ago, I had

    Egg Card (10K limit)
    MBNA (15K Limit)
    Mint (5.6K Limit)
    LTSB Platinum (15.6K Limit).

I now only have the Mint and LTSB card, all the other accounts are closed. The LTSB card is now reducing nicely.

Ah fair enough, definitely a good enough reason to keep it open in that case :D

Nice one on the debt clearance, good luck with the rest :o

Mint is being/ has been withdrawn as a brand

I was wanting to consolidate my Natwest and Mint card over a year ago and was told to keep the NW and lose the Mint because Mint was being locked down in preparation for their closure. I'd assume that they were actually converted to RBS or NW cards rather than terminated but dont know.
