£500 projector recommendations?

Hi All,
My old 42" plasma is on it's last legs so I'm thinking about upgrading to a projector and making the spare room a bit of a man-cave for watching movies, gaming, etc. Does anyone have any recommendations for a projector that will work well in a fairly dark room? I'm currently looking at the Optoma HD33 and using my existing surround sound set up.
