Centre parcs security?

Hi,

we are going to centre parcs in a few weeks, never been before, but really looking forward to it.
OH and I are keen cyclists, and have decent bikes (cyclocross-which look like a road bike, but are a little more rugged)
Is it safe for us to bring the bikes to centreparcs, or would we be better hiring them? We would keep them in chalet if we did take them, but I have heard stories of them being broken into for bikes....

Also-what are the hired mountain bikes like?

We have been to centre parcs quite a few times, we take our own bikes and never had any problems, we have never rented bikes from centre parcs. You would need to take cleaning equipment with you to keep them in the chalets so that you didn't get the carpets muddy.

Have taken out own bikes to Centre Parcs a few times. Always just padlocked them outside. Wouldn't even think of keeping them indoors.

Where are the reports of thefts appearing?

I've heard anecdotal accounts of bike thefts but never actually known anyone who had them stolen.

There's loads of places to lock bikes to, at the villas and at the various centres. Take a good strong lock with you then you wont worry.

A friend's bike was stolen from one place (locked outside) , although they got called a week later to say it had been found. Then another friend was staying and the chalet next door was broken into and had the bikes stolen from inside.

The bikes are worth a fair bit. And even with strong locks I am a little worried about security. Even the centreparcs site itself says they can't stop thieves getting in and out....

Some years ago friends of ours had their chalet broken into and valuables stolen, but not bikes

    Make sure you have insurance

Been for last 13 years and never had a problem. Taken own bikes before but recently hired them as its less hassle and they are pretty good anyway.
