Actifry problem

Options
Good afternoon

I bought a Tefal Actifry from Tesco (23rd Jan 2012)

The paddle has stopped working, so I contacted Tefal about this.

Here is their reply

Thank you for your recent email regarding the above appliance. We are concerned to hear of the problem that you have experienced.
There are currently three options available to you:-
1. You could contact any local electrical repair agent or contact our authorised repair agent, Servicecare on 0161 688 1545 or via: http://www.myrepair.co.uk/GroupeSEB/ where you can book and track your repair yourself.
2. We would be happy for you to contact us to discuss the possibility of offering you a new product at a reduced price. If you would like to discuss this please contact us on 0845 602 1454.
3. You could return your product to your point of purchase as your Contract of Sale according to the Sale of Goods Act remains always with the retailer for up to 6 years (5 years in Scotland).
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

I would like to try option 3, as the appliance was £170 and should have lasted longer.

Any comments?
TIA

I don't see anything wrong with the options you've been given, ie, if you want a warranty repair get in touch with an authorised repair agent, if you want a new product then they'll sell you one at a discount, or if you want to exercise your statutory consumer rights then you need to contact the original retailer.

You should have gone straight to the retailer in the first instance, really - you've got no contract with Tefal, just Tesco.
  • Thanks for your replies, I have never returned anything after the guarantee period. However in this instance it should last longer than 18 months. I have only cooked chips in it, and thats only once a week!

If you have a tendency to do a large amount of chips at the same time, then this puts additional strain on the turning mechanism.

If I am correct, mine states in the user guide, that the max weight that can be done at once is 800g. Some are bigger, some smaller. I know when I haven't weighed the chips out and just piled them in, the turner has stopped and makes a loud clunking noise.

Had mine now for over 7 years and still works like new. Mum's handle broke off hers, but got one off amazon for a couple of quid, job done in seconds.

Best Kitchen appliance ever bought, apart from the Induction hob

We've had two of them - each one lasted just over a year. First one the latch on the lid broke off and the second one just went pop and stopped working. I love them but the build quality is terrible - we used them maybe once a week on average and just for the two of us so not overloaded.

Luckily we bought ours from Costco so they simply refunded and we bought a new one (at the same price), but when we took the second one back I replaced it with an Airfryer instead. I don't think the chips are quite as nice as the Actifry ones, but there seem to be fewer things that could go wrong with it so hopefully it'll be more reliable.

Actifrys are utter crap, paddle failure and lid failure are very common. From personal experience and googling it, I wouldn't bother with them.
