From everything I've read, there's more chance of Liz divorcing Phil in order to marry Graham Norton than there is of Universal Credit becoming universal in October.

I had a similar situation with my gran (although not entitled to pension credits) she moved into sheltered due to disability whilst owning her home. She sold it, fell through, rented it out, then eventually sold it for a higher price as I had time to modernise it for her.

It can be a stressful time for them selling the family home, its certainly hard on them. Gran wanted the asking price, I'd say it's a good offer etc, it really stressed her out a lot. Once sold and the money was in the bank she was more relaxed.

My advice is to try to alleviate any stress for them if you can by doing the viewings, would his children help put a fresh coat of paint or re-do the garden to help sell. The housing market is starting to pick up, but will drop close to christmas, this could allow time to do odd jobs ready for the early spring spurt etc.

I am basically the only helpful family.

Luckilly the house has been updated recently, prior to ill health. So its fairly unto date with all the mod cons, GCH, DG, modern kitchen, etc. There is no garden, but thats the same with 70% of the properties here. If a property does come up for sale or rent of course it attracts a very high premium.

Im asking on the landlord board about becoming a landlord and the legalities etc.

Income from rent will prevent pension credit guarantee, so be careful if wanting to claim HB, that said at £65 pw it could be beneficial so weigh up pros and cons.

You can sell anything at the right price. If it's going to mean means tested benefits stopping for some time, your step father will have to reassess his attitude to selling his property.

    yes he will.
Although my mum says if he doesn't sort out his depression, mood swings and other health issues, he can move back into ''HIS'' house and divorce her. There marriage is also suffering badly as you can imagine.

It's normal - gran used to say if I'm paying rent and council tax x 2 I might as well move back. Hence why selling quickly is best if possible.
