Can I have 2 x XBOXes

Options
Hi All,

I currently have an XBOX in the lounge and a PS3 in the man cave.

I'm going to get another XBOX for the man cave.

Can I play my upstairs XBOX games in the man cave and play from where I left off in the lounge?

Simple question, hopefully a simple answer. I did check Microsoft but their XBOX Q&A was very vague...

TIA.

  • Yes you can. You need to save the content to the cloud service, this will allow you to then play your saved game on any console.

I've never done it myself though but I believe things like DLC/updates etc will need to be the same on both consoles.

Assuming You have an xbox live account and the games support Cloud based storage of game saves then yes! - will synch when sign in\out

If not then you could use a physical USB Thumb drive to move between the rooms, along with the game disks.. although if the saves get corrupted its all lost..

Only one console can be signed into xbox live at a time..

I use the cloud storage to flick between using the Living room or my sons xbox...

Make sure your router supports Pnp since NAT settings can be hampered if another console used at the same time \ shortly after (although dont have this problem with the BT Homehub now)...

Ive not used the cloud yet but when ive switched from 1 xbox to another Ive just removed the hard drive from 1 console to the other, ive got the xbox where the hard drive fits on the side.

I do this right now, we have a living room Xbox and I have one in my cellar/office. I put the games I'm playing at the moment into the cloud storage and then I can just carry on downstairs. The only annoying thing is I have my gamertag auto sign in and occasionally someone will turn the living room Xbox on, thus signing me out in the middle of a game.

You could of course get 2 accounts.
At about £28 per year its not bad for a whole years gaming even if you have 2 accounts.

Can't use the cloud storage then. We do have other accounts, just mine is auto-sign-in and I'd rather that than have to sign in everytime I go on there.
  • Move your hard drive with you, or use a USB memory stick (you can have upto 2 x 32gb).

I wouldn't recommend Cloud - if internet/Live is not available you won't be able to play....

Cloud keeps a local cache of the saves - its like a virtual drive within the main drive.. those saves are refreshed when live is next available (when console is turned off it looks to update that information)..

The only risk of cloud is that if internet was unavailable - and both consoles were used to play and re-save the same game at different points.. then there could be a conflict as and when these changes are applied.. but the chances of someone doing this.

Ive use cloud saves over 3 consoles (2 different locations) and never had any problems with it..

The 2 Xbox live accounts suggestion is quite ridiculous, especially if you want to resume the game from the same point.. (since progress would be separate)..

Cloud (with xbox live account) is better option, followed by suitable usb thumb drive, then move main hard drive.
