I know this is a money saving website, but as an extravagance, I have pre-ordered one of these:
http://lifx.co/
It's steep at £50, but the price will come down, and for now it's just a toy for me to play with.
That looks really cool!If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!

That's what I thought. I was too late to be a Kickstarter backer, but I am in the second production batch, so I might get it by september. That looks really cool!
Phillips have a similar product (Hue) but you need a base station that plugs into your wifi hub, and they are about a quater of the lumen output of the lifx bulb.
Can't wait for mine to turn up!

As usual, anything connected to the internet needs to have proper security. Apparently Phillips didn't get this right

Yeah i've been following technology like this for a while. I'd be very sceptical about a 25 year lifespan. Whats that based on, how many hours, what testing have they done? The more technology, or the more a light bulb does the less the lifespan will be. I think there might be a lot of teething problems with technology like this.
The technology is very cool and it does a great job and it'll be interesting to see how it develops.
One of the most interesting things we have been looking at is lighting bulbs that can either carry a wi fi signal or more likely boost a wif fi signal.
So you have your wi fi router on one room but all your light bulbs around the house are boosting that signal, so you get full wi fi signal in all areas of the house.
The great thing about it is it's not that complicated to achieve.0 -
Fortunately I have better things to spend my money on:D:D:D
No offence meant, but why would you want to control the light in your home when you aren't there??????, my arms can actually reach from the door step to the light switch when I get home.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0
