Bios update or not.....

I have upgraded my laptop to 2GBs thanks to help from this forum, but the laptop started shutting down unexpectedly and refused to start up again.
So i contacted crucial.com and they said all i need to do is update the BIOS and all will be well again.
I have had to put the original memory back in to get the laptop to work again.
Crucial.com said it was a little update and nothing to worry about, but since then i have read that doing this bios thing is risky and could permanatley damage the motherboard  .
Can anyone advise me on this, has anyone done this before,
thanks.

I've done it a couple of times without problem. You do need to do your research and be sure that everything is in place before you begin.0

what do you mean doing your research etc..

i have found the update from the toshiba website, and there are 2 ways of doing this, either traditional or flash.Which do you recommend..
what else do i need to do pleae.... i can't afford to ruin the laptop..Not ashamed to say ABBA are Great :j0 -
Just follow the instructions.
Most laptops enable you to update your BIOS from within Windows making things simpler, just a few clicks.
The traditional method involved swapping floppy disks and a little knowledge of Dos commands.
Just make sure your laptop is plugged into the mains.
Disable anything not required (virus checkers, unplug from net etc) just as a little more peace of mind.
The danger is that if you lose power half way through the process, your machine will be a doorstop.
Just make sure you read the Winflash instructions completely and follow themto the letter.0
