Help Needed - CC Application

Hi everyone
I know this is my first post but I wonder if anyone would be able to help. I'm going away to Spain next Wednesday (14th Aug) and need to rent a car. I've never had a credit card and obviously you need one in order to do so, so I applied to Barclaycard 3 weeks back and to cut a long story short they completely messed me around and rejected my application due to a minor address discrepancy.
So now I need a credit card by next Wednesday. Is there any hope at all? Are any card issuers particularly renowned for speedy delivery? My credit rating is fine so there shouldn't be any problems there.

Thanks for replying. Is there a way of hiring with just a debit card? The advice I've been given (by friends etc) is that a credit card is essential, but I'd be glad to hear they're wrong!0
