Any bed/mattress experts out there?

I am having extreme difficulty sleeping and am convinced my bed is the problem which seems to be extremely uncomfortable. I have a slatted bed base with a pocket sprung mattress on top.
I have recently read in a magazine that some pocket sprung mattresses are not suitable for slatted bases - is this true? I don't know whether I will have to invest in a new bed to solve my restless nights but even then I might end up buying the wrong type of bed.
Can anyone offer any advice?
Thanks

All depends on how far apart the slats are, more then 3 inch gap may be a problem as the spring may be in mid air.
If you are worried put a thin board of plywood or something down to make it a solid base or add more slats if possible.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -
If you have a solid floor such as laminate or wood, you could try placing the mattress on that temporarily to see if it makes a difference. If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!

You could try adding a Featherbed/ mattress topper to your own mattress to see if that makes it more comfy0

Have you tried flipping your mattress over recently? Also how old is the mattress?0 -
Pretty expensive but has changed my life.

I had back pain and sleeping issues as long as I can remember until I bought the first one of those in 2003. I have since only bought that mattress. Do not get the slim version which gets put on top of another normal mattress. Get the full tempur pedic mattress version. I always take the hardest one.
It took around 4 weeks for all back pain to completely disappear.0 -
The mattress and bed frame are about 5 years old which I don't think is old in bed terms.
Yeah that's not old at all. Depends though on a number of things such as how much you move in the night, your weight, the quality of the mattress, etc. Would try flipping it first and seeing how it feels in different configurations. If the problem persists see about getting a new mattress. It shouldn't technically be the bed as you can get different types of mattresses for different beds and when you try them in store, they're generally paired appropriately.0
