Turned down

I spoke to my bank account as I wanted to see if I could upgrade my cash card account to a current account. Due to having a defualt with the same bank I was refused. The account was in a joint name with my ex. I didn't cause the debt and couldn't get my name off it n time at that point due to working abroad.

Is there anything I can do - the account was settled a soon as I found out about it or am I to stay in this hole for another 2 years. I have worked my !!!! off and just seem to think is this all worth
It.

The only thing I have Learned from all of this is NEVER have a joint account no matter how much you trust someone..

Perhaps try a different bank, ensuring it's in a different banking group to your current provider. Your comment on joint accounts is one that's often stated here, but so often people won't believe the problems will affect them.

Have you updated your credit files to remove your association to your ex on them?

I would do that before applying to another bank.

Thanks Datadash79 & pmduk, I quickly removed all finiacial ties with her thru experian. It's just so depressing that after clearing up an awfull lot of financial burden that was left to me, that as I thought I was getting somewhere I hit yet another wall.

For those that do read this and think "
It won't happen to me" it can and probably will!

I think ill give Barclays ago as I have there Barclay card and I have considerable savings as well as earnings.. Onwards and upwards :)

It's not just Experian. Equifax and call credit need to be updated as well.

It would be worth looking at these credit files as sometimes reporting by companies isn't done to every agency and you might miss something.

It's not enough to update just one agency, you need to correct all 3 CRA's files, Experian, Equifax, and Callcredit. That way all checks should receive similar info about your past.

    Sorry, cross-posted with above.
