paintwork issues on new car

i bought a brand new Maxda 3 in march this year and have been very pleased with it up to now.
i noticed a couple of weeks ago that the paintwork had started to wear away on the roof above the drivers door,so i contacted mazda who said bring it along and we will look at it.
i took it to them last week and they guy i saw was very helpful but said it does not look promosing (under warranty) as it looks like it has been caused by ab outside influence (bird poo), but he would submit it to mazda and would get back in touch soon.
a week later and i contacted him to be told that mazda will not sort it out under the warranty because it was caused by a 3rd party (bird).
i did try to explain that as the car was only 4 months old then this should not be happening to a new car and that my previous mazda which was 10 years when i traded it in did not have any issues with the paintwork, and my wifes mazda which is 4 years old has also no problems with the paintwork.
all he said was to get in touch with customer services who will take it on as a case then may help.
i am very upset by this as surely for a car of 4 months old the paintwork should not be peeling like this and is making me very paranoin of any bird droppings on it now.
the car is regulay cleaned .
any help or advice on this would help greatly as not too sure whereelse to go if i do not get any satisfatory results from mazda.
thank you

How do they know it was caused by a bird?0

Contact customer service as they suggest, and see what they say.
If you have no luck, then contact trading standards. It would also be worth contacting BBC Watchdog, just in case anyone else has had the same problem.0 -
All car warranties specifically exclude damage from 'bird lime', if that is definitely the cause unfortunately you won't have any luck claiming. And that my son, is how to waft a towel!0

It really doesn't take long for bird poo to start destroying paintwork on a car. It's nasty stuff.

Its not a warranty issue yet if the car is 4 months old, its firmly in the sale of goods side of things and goods being fit for purpose.
If bird crap causes paint problems quickly then it seems to me to be not fit for purpose. Your claim is with the dealer that sold you the car not the manufacturer. Its not unreasonable to expect your paint to be resistant to bird turd. I have fancy lenticular paint on my car and never had a problem with our winged friends.
You should take advice from Trading Standards (in any case they are worth speaking to) or some others on here though.0 -
how the eff do car companies conclude it was caused by bird crap if they have no proof of it?
What a cop out. WHy do they make cars with shoddy lacquer that get dissolved from bird crap anyway?
Every car will get crapped on by a bird at least once a month. It's a given. I don't understand why they would use paint that's not impervious to bird crap.
This is defi9nately a mazda issue. There was another poster who bought a newish mazda with a few thousand on the clock and the nose was was peppered with stone chips.0 -

Either that or there's an elite bird squadron armed with portable shot blasting equipment. :rotfl:“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

There is. They have an incredibly powerful radar that can detect an open bottle of car shampoo from 1000 miles away, as soon as that bottle is closed an elite force consisting of a large overweight seagul that has recently gorged itself on discarded McDonalds fries and stolen icecream, along with a squadron of pigeons for defence, will set off ready to attack your car, while in a nearby tree a nightingale will chirp the Dambusters March by Eric Coates.0 -
I have a squadron of starlings that saturation bomb my dog in the back garden with cherry stones. She dashes inside 'till they go, then tries to get out before I can brush them up to eat the stones.
At work a fat seagull would cr#p on my car roof every day, despite moving it around the carpark.
The little b#ggers do it deliberately.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I've had plenty of bird droppings on my cars...I don't wash them very often...and yes it can stain the clear coat but it's never eaten it's way thru.
I wouldn't accept it0
