Fridge Freezer water dispenser

The water in the dispenser of my beko fridge freezer has started to give a flavour which is artificial.I thought it was just me but other members of household have noticed this -it is certainly not the refreshing water i recall last summer The tap water is perfectly fine.
I have cleaned the dispenser and was alarmed to find mould deposits (although not directly in contact with water) -this is a potential health risk ? .And mould is also in the push spring at the base (i'm not sure if this has water contact)- and this cannot be cleaned I cleaned thoroughly eslewhere but still same taste .
Beko cleaning instructions make no mention of mould deposits whatsoever.
The fridge /freezer i purchased about 3 years ago so what are
my rights under Sale Of Good s Act ?
I purchased off Argos

Is this the first time you have cleaned it? If so, that would account for the mould.

To get any remedy from Argos you will need to prove the item is inherently faulty - that would involve getting an engineers report stating the item was faulty from manufacture. I think you're going to struggle with this after three years.

Doesn't it have a filter that needs replacing every 6 months or so?

Sounds like you have the same fridge freezer as my dad. Firstly, would you leave water in a glass and keep topping it up for a year? Or would you wash the glass between uses?
The theory for water dispensers is the same. That black mould will grow in the damp conditions in and around the water container if it's not cleaned.
Tap water is full of impurities and, if left, will go funny. (Think shower heads, around taps, bath seals etc. etc.)

Also, have you replaced the filter? This will also make a huge difference.
  • Wanting to force a remedy under the SOFA because you can't be bothered to clean it or perhaps change the filter? A new low for MSE!

Mould grows where it's allowed to giving the right conditions, the FF does not just grow it's own mould. There is no consumer rights issue here, you know the problem so deal with it.

It is a health risk so don't drink the water anymore and don't let any more taste it. Manufacturers are usually happy tell you how to best clean there products.

Is it a "plumbed in" water supply, or a tank in the door that you need to fill up?

We have an admiral freezer with a plumbed in dispenser and I bypassed the filter unit as soon as I saw the price of a replacement filter.
So what I have now is just chilled tap water that has passed through the fridge.
I still make sure to run off a pint or so a week just to stop the water in the chiller pipe from sitting for too long.

If you DO have a filter you need to either replace it as per the dates the manufacturer says, or remove it from the system altogether as an old filter can cause off tastes and smells.
“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”

Also, with regards to the mould in the spring mechanism, you can clean this with a pipe cleaner. Or you can soak the whole tank unit in hot soapy water.
