Start Rescue (roadside recovery)
I'm about to renew my breakdown cover, and through a comparison website I've seen that this company does a cover half the price of my current one.
My only question is: are they reliable?
I have not had any problems with my car, but it's 10 years old and sooner or later I will, and I don't want to be left on the side of the road for hours!

You'll find most times you need the likes of the aa or rac etc, you'd have an independent turn up to recover you anyway, there all on the scheme and when the big guns are maxed out the jobs go out to others and they take the job and bill them,
Don't renew just go back as a first timer, they have been open admitted that a renewal policy is not discounted anywhere near that of a new one,
Another idea depending on your circumstances and what other factors you might benefit from, I get mine the full AA package through my bank account along with a wide range of other services like mobile insurance, but I cover 40k a year in my work van which is also covered.0 -
Thanks for replying.
I got the renewal letter through the post and it's £89 (RAC with Tesco). I went to comparethemarket and they quoted me for half that much with the home start package.
I used to be with Tesco Car Insurance (AXA, I think), but my renewal two years ago was a lot more expensive than going with another company. Pity, because I had been with them for years.0 -

Thanks, but I'm not too sure about the pay and then claim aspect of it.
It would mean that I have to come up with the money, then get it paid back.
(Touch wood) I've never needed to call the RAC, but my car is now 10 years old, so I want to make sure I'm with a reliable company.0 -

I've been with them for three years. No issues at all. The online interface is very simple to use and i've had to call them twice with a breakdown. Out in the timeframe they commited to and both times it was an independent who loaded up my car and took me and the car home.
No issues at all.
Would strongly recommend.0 -

Roughly, how much does it cost to tow the car back home? I imagine it would vary from one place to another, but just to have a general idea.0 -

They dont - its included in the price.
I pay £59 a year which is the home start but its personal to me - its any car i am in not just the car.
Both times its been a low loader thats come and they just load the car on to it. None of this towing lark!0
