Additional accidental damage excess amounts for young or inexperienced drivers

I'm 45 and held a licence for almost 30 years now, but last year was the first time in a few years that I've insured my own car. I used the comparison sites and went with Asda as it was the cheapest.
I received the renewal notice today and it reminded me to check up on this bit, with three cash figures

Additional accidental damage excess amounts for young or inexperienced drivers
Age of the driver in charge of your car: Excess
Under 21
21-24
25 or over and inexperienced

I've emailed Asda to ask what it is but got the '5 days for reply' email, so wondered if you guys could clear it up :)

Am I paying more than I should for this, as I am neither under 25 or inexperienced?

Noticed you mentioned renewal so I would presume you are not a new driver.

One year is plenty experience. I would regard inexperienced as someone whose just passed their test and new on the road.

So i don't think any of these apply to you..

    Paying more for what?

That's just the standard policy that everyone has. If you are neither young nor inexperienced, it has no relevance to you.

As per the above, it is standard wording that appears on all policies irrespective of if you actually have any young/ inexperienced drivers named. Just saves having to do reprints etc if you decided to add someone mid term that fell under these terms.

Inexperienced is normally defined as less than 12 months experience with a full license but can vary between insurers. Certainly 30 years should qualify as experienced :)
