Not on here but the local bar ran competitions for 'tickets'. These were a surprise each week. I won twice.
I won Olly Murs tickets, got all excited and found one of my final uni presentations was on the same day about a week before. Sold them to a lovely lady as it was a sell out date and she was over the moon. (gutted as I love Olly)

I also won tickets to the jingle bell ball. I won 3 weeks before the date, so I was waiting on the tickets before I booked anything to see the day I had won! I was given them at 10:40pm the night before the concert. I was in Scarborough and a train to London that late in the day is over £160! (for me and my BF) so I was pretty annoyed that I couldn't go, nor post them to anyone else to use!

Whilst I entered these in good faith (you can also win buffet meals and a bottle of wine) you didn't know what you were getting, it turns out both times were a case of bad timing!

However, in the case on entering on MSE - I would NEVER enter for something I couldn't get to. My harrods trip, even though I live 4 hours from London, my BF lives there and I was going to see him anyway, so I can also enter for day trips, travel around that area and so on.

I wouldn't enter for a 'pick up' only item, unless it was a holiday or vouchers for something I wouldn't want to miss!
I have been guilty of entering competitions in the hope of winning the runners up prize! :O xxx

So to summarise, no, I wouldn't enter anything, knowing that I was unable to go, or give to someone else!

When I started off I did enter for tickets that I knew my family would love. Then when I won them it was so much hassle because family would then say they couldn't because of work, travel etc and I ended up feeling really annoyed that I had put effort entering for others and they weren't even grateful......given up to that one now!
Thanks to all those fab compers who post:j:T

I have boxes of childrens toys and babies toys and appliances in my spare room and I have no young children anymore. Hard to sell and no idea what to do with them but often family come and have a lucky dip or some go to the local childrens ward. Some have sat there for over a year.

I can understand the present giving/selling aspect and people doing what they want with things is fair enough - but I couldn't bear to have all that stuff ^ hanging around for a year with no real use, seems rather pointless entering to me and the clutter would drive me mad!

If it's not something specific I (or I know a family member wants/needs/has a birthday etc coming up) I wouldn't enter, plus it might be something someone else, who might desperately need it, could have won.

Where is this swapping thread that someone mentioned. I though we weren't allowed to offer unwanted prizes on here? I won a spa night away a couple of saturdays ago with a local radio station (it was a call in competition) the prize is fab and not too far and would be perfect night away for the hubby and I, but now it has arrived its only available Sunday to Thursday and the use of the spa has to be on the day of arrival but we have no holiday days left. I have tried calling the spa to see if I can pay extra to stay on a Friday or Saturday and they said No. But they have given me permission to allow someone else to use the prize but I would feel a little strange asking people for money for something I won in a competition. Anyone have any idea's what I could do? I would rather get something for it. It is based by Silvertstone and is valued at £198.00.

I won a couple of main prizes last year when I was after the runner up ones, tickets for something called JLS inc a meet and greet with them and a pair of festival tickets of my choice, in both cases I just asked them to redraw.
  • Some years ago I entered a comp hoping to win the second prize which was a weekend in Paris. I won the first prize and had a lovely holiday in Japan. This was something which I could never have afforded or would even have thought about going to.

So, this has now happened to me.

I won tickets to a play that is tonight.

Yesterday I broke my elbow. Can't drive, so can't attend.

I've tried contacting both companies that confirmed the tickets with me, I don't want them thinking I just didn't show up!

I entered for a gift hamper last summer, it had a few bits of furniture as well as usual gift shop items. It was pick up only in Exeter and I live in South Wales but I was willing to travel the 7 hour round trip if I won. I did win and they offered to transfer the prize to Cardiff so it was a 1.5 hour round trip instead. I was lucky but still would have collected. :)

It miffles me too as I am from the Southwest and there is literally NOTHING going down here tickets wise etc, so when boardmasters Tickets came I was so excited as me and the other half wanted to go I entered every single one :( Then I saw three people who won them and didn't realise where it was or whatever. I understand if it's unforeseeable i.e. child care or working but just simply ignorance or greed bugs me. As you can tell I didn't win any of the tickets Ergh.

:D Well there's my rant for the day :D

I only really enter in comps that I want to win or would be good for family gifts.

I don't enter in any foreign hotel/flights only because I couldn't afford to pay for the rest. In the UK it varies, if its 1 night and a 5 hour drive then I wouldn't enter but if its a 5 hour drive but say 3/4 nights then I would.
