you could say the same about a webhost, if you web host folds or gets run over by a bus you would be in the same situationGod no, major retailers are all run in house with their IT support & web development in house, ideally with their servers on company premises as well (although some are moving to cloud offerings these days).
wrong look at many of their sites footers they tell who designed and hosts the site.
yes their internal IT departments will have the control over the sites just like if you had a site designed and given cpanel access. But if you look deeper into the design company they will be linked to major advertising agencies or even owned by the store group, but not inhouse0 -
