What is a man doing up a ladder outside my bedroom window

I just got home early from work to catch a man at my bedroom window. I asked him what he was doing and he said he was cleaning my windows, when I asked him where his bucket was he said the owner had gone inside to fetch him some water, when I pointed out I was the owner he made his escape.
I'm going to tell my neighbours when they get in, but is there anything more I can do?

It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun

I'd tell the police. Not a 999 call but you could call your local (or local-ish if it's anywhere like here!) police station. That's way there's some record of the incident and the guy - could help if they get similar reports from other people.0

eeek!! I'd definitely report that! How creepy.

How did he escape with a ladder?
Did he do a runner, or was he in a vehicle, and did you take the number?
Report it to the police immediately.0 -
Yep, contact the police. Even the best case scenario as to what he was doing is something dodgy.0

Oh my god! Ring 101 if your area has it. Sounds very dodgy! Hopefully he won't be back as you've effectively 'caught him' and won't risk what he was thinking of doing... whatever that may be!
Could be a burglar scouting or could just be the local perv who gets off on looking in lady's bedrooms.0 -
Ring 101 which is the non emergency police number and report him. He will undoubtably be a burglar. There will probably be a few robberies reported in your area. Tell your neighbours as well and make sure windows are closed when you go out.
In my street we have bay windows on the ground floor and a few people have been broken into by robbers climbing up onto the bay and then through an open window. One neighbour left the key in the back door (inside the house) so that gave the robbers an ideal exit out of the house and off down the back alley.I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round0 -
His actions definitely sound suspicious. Apart from informing your neighbours I would phone 101 and let them know about the incident. How unsettling for you, hope you are okay. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0

Call the police (non emergency number).0

Sounds like you got back just in time! Was your window open?0

Might be worth the police finger printing the ladder in case he did not have gloves on.0
