Would turning the water temp on boiler save money

I'm considering turning the water temp down on my boiler, I just wonder if this would save any money or not.

Currently when running the hot tap (eg, for washing up) I find myself also running the cold tap to bring the temp down.

Any one done this ?

Hot water tank, or on-demand hot water?

Yes, of course it will. You are putting in unwanted heat and then using cold water to cool it down again. This applies whether it's a combi or via a hot water tank.

Only reason I mentioned hot water tank is because turning it below a certain level could cause sickness. If its a tank, keep it above 50c.
  • Yes it will, but you may to put it for doing dishes.

    It's a normal combi boiler

Seeing as the pipework from the combi boiler to the tap will be full of cold water when you turn the tap on and there will be an element of bringing the waqter up to temp within the boiler just don't throw away the cold that comes through first and use it to moderate the heat that appears later to a temperature that is convenient for you. The amount of cold that comes though first will, of course, depend on the length of the pipework.

Some combis have a DHW temp control - a lot don't. Yes by all means turn it down if you have the control but even with it turned down don't chuck that first lot of cold away - use it (its already been heated once and cooled down anyway).

    Cheers
