I am at the moment trying to negotiate for a couple in a similar situation but I doubt they would be grateful if I found them a wing in Buckingham Palace
OP it could be years, average in most areas of the country is around 3 years some areas being longer and some being less so it really is hard to say,
sorry
We were grateful to have been able to bring our children up in a 3 bed house from the local authority so as soon as we could we gave it back and down sized from 2 to 1. I have never understood why people living alone or in a couple want to have the upkeep of what is a family home.0 -
Thank you carefullycautious for resuming my faith in the human race
outofmoney that's what you get for having all boys LOL, if one of your boys had been a girl , as if by magic , a house would be available, crazy isn't it,
can I ask what part of the country you are applying0 -
Makes me wonder what is going on in my town. I know of people who in their late teens/early twenties with a newborn baby have been given 3 bed houses and they didn't seem to wait more than a few months.0

It does depend on where you live and what area you are looking for. When I lived in Wolverhampton and was on a team encouraging people to move to Wolves from London.., they actually were knocking down 'unlettable' houses by the streetload.
Now there are long waiting lists there, same as everywhere else.
I would be very suprised if someone with one child was being moved into a 3 bed house, a two bed yes, but nowhere has an over supply of 3 bed houses. And most definitely not in the large numbers u seem to be describing.
In our borough (just outside London) there is a real shortage of even private rental properties.., LA houses are almost impossible to get, even for those u'd think would be in priority need.0 -

Ahh, but I do have a girl, lol. She is the only one who gets her own room. More of an oversized cupboard really, but it is all hers. In terms of space she still has much more than each of the boys.
But if one of those boys had been a girl then life would be much easier. Hmm, actually another hormonal girl, maybe not!

LOL boys for me anytime but then I only had boys :rotfl:
I am sorry to have to agree with you , your chances of getting a council house living in Kent is close to nil but you never know, its the same in most of the country ,
some areas in S Wales are not so bad and it seems more 3 beds are coming on the list with people wanting to downsize due to the "bedroom Tax"
private renting is in a lot of cases the way to go , and the more LL are willing to take people on benefits hopefully things will get better0 -
Kent is where I live. If you're on HB its possible, but very hard to find a private rental landlord. LA houses are almost impossible to find. Housing is very tough here.0

It's possible but 99% of houses here are at least £200 more than the LHA. Those that are below are either flats or have no parking at all. We have two disabled children so both of those are out.
Will keep bidding and looking though
