BT Home move

Hi

Looking to exchange on our new house , in the next couple of weeks, aimed completion will be 28/29th August

My question is , how long are BT typically taking to set up accounts , i ask because we have phone and BB with them , and we want to keep them at the new house , i can complete the house move on line , and give my date of moving , but of course until exchnage something horrendous (touches wood) could go wrong

Assuming it doesnt , BT say they will contact current occupier to advise them, my worry is i wait and wait and then do the home move we wont be `live` on move in date

Also , i can see that i can cacnel the move at any point as well , so i was thinking , get it set up now , and then adjust details , if applicable , at exchange of house contracts?

This is what i can do with SKY , as you can just contact them up to the day before to rearrange if the dates change

Any tips?

The crucial point is whether there is already a working BT-based line at the new property, and if so, who is is it with? A new line provision typically takes 3-4 weeks.

Why? A £130 charge applies for a new line provision only (if you are mad enough to pay the BT rack rate). Whether you move to a property on the same exchange or not is irrelevant to this.
A new number does not mean a new line charge.

IT DID FOR US ,we moved from one exchange area to another and had to have a new line put in

But you were charged for a new line-that charge applies whether you move exchanges or not.

I agree with macman , there is an exisitng line already there that they already told me they dont need to attend to switch to me, unless i want infinity (and that the swop is FOC)

Anyway , pushing for exchange on our house with at least 2 weeks to completion , and BT have said it would take about 8 days to set our current package up , at the new house , so we should be OK time wise
