Planning permission for flats - No parking spaces?

Just a quick question!
Theres a plot of land down the road from us that has been empty for decades. Back in 2008 someone applied for planning permission to build three houses on the land but it was rejected.
The land recently sold at auction and now someone has applied for planning permission to put 3 flats on the land.
Reading through the application, they dont intend to supply any car parking spaces, just a cycle space for each flat.
I was under the impression that if you was building a flat now days you had to cater to at least one vehicle per flat? Just wondered whether thats something I dreamt up!

depends, there is usually a parking requirement, however some designations of land can have zero parking, it depends on the local planning policy in that area - I have also heard of developers using it as a "green" scheme, saying that it will reduce the environmental impact of the building if the people staying there are encouraged to use bikes/public transport etc. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Thanks for the reply.
I dont think they have much choice other then to only offer cycle parking as theres a set of garages in front of the plot of land so the only access would be for pedestrians.
Im hoping theres not much chance of the permission being granted. They want to create the flats out of multicoloured recycled shipping containers! Would look totally out of place!0 -
If you object to the proposals then make sure you object... Might sound like stupid advice but you'd be amazed at how many people hope that permission doesn't get granted but don't actually object and then moan that permission is granted. I'm not saying that the planners will agree with your objections but at least you would have done everything you can0

Ha - my LA is just about to grant permission for 200 units, including houses with 0 parking, except for a few car club spaces and bicycles. Depends on LA, policy, area and most importantly - developer's strength and gift of gab I reckon0

It depends on the area, in the flats where I live you purchase your flat and car parking space separately, we bought a space with ours but others didn't. There are enough for 2/3 of the flats to have one parking space and there are also 4 visitor parking spaces.0

As above. Voice your opinions and reasons. Its an expected part of the planning procedure. If you object to the proposals then make sure you object... About 4 sets of flats have gone up in my road over the past couple of years. None have parking, I think it was allowed as they are really close to the station but in reality that hasnt made people use the train more and it has just made parking in our road a bit of a nightmare. I'm so glad I have off road parking.0
