Gtech- Newspaper adverts - took more money from the bank!!

Options
I just wanted to warn people to check before ordering from GTech - did a favour for my uncle - he doesn't believe in credit or debit cards - wanted a hoover he had seen in Daily Mail £199.00....... if he gives me £200 cash can we order it!!

No problem............

-(Tuesday)Rang up 3.30pm - ordered hoover, gave debit card details, all processed, - hoover will be 2 days - send conformation by email.

- that evening - email comes through from Netbank (the agent they used to take the money), - saying transaction cancelled

-So went online - logged into gtech account - showed order placed at 3.30pm, then cancelled 2 minutes later......

-Mass panic - wasn't my money - ordered another hoover online - no problem, all went through. The helpline was closed, but as account showed order cancelled, went ahead and placed a new order.

2 days later (Thursday)- my uncle gets a hoover delievered to his address - we get one too

Check bank - 2 lots of £199.00 have been debited - by the way your now over drawn.......

Rang GTech - they apparently had no record of the 1st hoover being cancelled - but they will refund and collect the hoover - refund will be 24 hours.

-Fri - Hoover collected - as for refund not shown promised be in by 6,30pm

-Weekend - No refund in bank - no customer service available

-Mon - ring Gtech, they ring me, ring bank, - no money - then told the assistant had given me wrong information the refunds take 3 to 5 days.......

Not good enough - ask for the copy of the paperwork related to the process of the transactions - got them emailed across

-The paperwork showed they had tried 4 times to take the money from the telephone order, despite the money being authorised, the system continued to try to take it, - lucky the bank did not pay out for try no 2, 3 or 4.......

I finally got the money back on the Wednesday into my bank account, - i have recieved my costs back, (od charges, telephone calls,) but that is not the point, - had I not been on the ball - how many other people has this happened to.

I honestly think most people would notice if they had 2 vacuum cleaners and most people would check their bank accounts for a refund of that amount

you got all your money back plus costs which to be honest is excellent customer service.

Plus i have never known a refund to go through same day most take 3-5 days some take 28 days

It's not excellent customer service to repay the costs OP incurred due to Gtechs mistake - it's the legal minimum they could do.

    No.
A Hoover is a vacuum cleaner.
A vacuum cleaner *may* be a Hoover, but more often than not it won't be.

    From the Oxford English Dictionary;

    Hoover, n.
    a. (With capital initial.) The proprietary name of a make of vacuum cleaner (patented in 1927).
    b. loosely. (With small initial.) Any vacuum cleaner.

I believe that the OP was using the word in the terms of sense b.
