my dad is worried that the inheritance he leaves me will mean I have to pat back my student loan and legal aid, is this true?

Student loan repayments are based on income, not capital.0

Not sure how liability to pay legal aid works, but I know that often a charge is put against the marital home (if there is one) in divorce cases and is sometimes comes as a shock to people that they can't just keep all the money.Signature removed for peace of mind0

Thanks for info. We divorced 5 years ago and the marital home was sold to pay off my ex's business debts. he has since bought another house but I privately rent so don't have any assets like that and have never had savings so have never had to think about before. Not sure how liability to pay legal aid works, but I know that often a charge is put against the marital home (if there is one) in divorce cases and is sometimes comes as a shock to people that they can't just keep all the money.0 -
So, if you had legal aid for the divorce and there is still a debt from that, any inheritance might mean you have to pay back the legal aid there and then.helenbrooke wrote: »Thanks for info. But what's the alternative? Your dad doesn't give you an inheritance? You still have the debt from the legal aid, interest IS applied to that (as it is to a student loan), and you have no means of paying it off ...
I think your Dad shouldn't worry about that.Signature removed for peace of mind0
