Advice if poss...?
Hi all, looking to get a good accounting programmes for home - torn between all the different options. There is one called home accounts on amazon which I have found that seems quite popular but I know from word of mouth that Microsoft money is good but am confused about all the sunset stuff. If I get am older version eg 2005 will it do everything it should? What exactly was discontinued? Was it just support?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as we are
Moving home and want to start off in the right foot

Look at gnucash which is free and at least as powerful as much costlier software.
Also consider ruling your own excel spreadsheets, accounting software does rather replace one set of problems with another... Learning the software and the methodology!0 -
Look on the money off and coupons forum. It has a code for FreeAgent. It's a cloud based system that has the requirements of a sage system, but is 99% easier.
I see hundreds of businesses join it every month.
You can look at Sage One, but is far to basic for accounting on a business set up. As for the various free sets of software out there, I personally don't want to go for software that has no indemnity.0 -
For simple tracking of in's and out's, you can't beat the free cash book from https://www.vtsoftware.co.uk. It is ideal for home accounting as it includes a chart of accounts (income & expense headings) for household if you're not a business. If you're a business, it's fine for cash accounting and cash VAT returns, but is upgradable to the paid-for version (cheap at one off £130ish) if you need sales & purchase ledgers etc.0

I'm another fan of VT cashbook - simple to use, to make corrections etc.0

There is always wave accounting https://www.waveapps.com which is free and more than enough for basic home accounts or small business.Running challenge 2014 = 689k / 800k0

Hi, if you follow Intuit on Twitter they regularly offer nearly 50% discounts on their QuickBooks desktop accounts software. I have found it to be good, particularly as the databases, invoicing, vat systems are all set up for you, you just tailor it to your business.0

I use SAGE and have always found them very good, if using an accountant check with them first0

As mentioned if using an accountant see what they would want/recommend.

I was looking for something similar but for my business too Came across Quick File (http://www.quickfile.co.uk/) through a recommendation, and never looked back.
Its cloud-based, and free and you can send invoices too if you ever need to.
I do quarterly back-ups just for my peace of mind which takes me all of 2 mins!Interested in property investment, web tech, social media, forex, equities. Also a proud father & entrepreneur of sorts.0
