Sold an item to someone who didn't wait for an invoice and paid immediately....except that they live somewhere which costs 4-5 times the postage cost I had quoted for UK mainland.

Cue aggressive messages from them, demands for a refund which I happily and immediately gave and a denied cancellation request as well as a spiteful message and a negative feedback.

Further to this, their feedback is set to private which only means they have something to hide..can I do anything?

I think all you can do is edit your account to block for future and respond under the feedback something along the lines.

Postage was quoted for UK mainland buyer in xxxx refunded in full.

I would speak to ebay mail or phone and pass the messages etc onto them, im not sure what they will do, but you don't have to put up with abuse

Are we talking someone living in the Highlands & Islands here? If so did you say in your listing that the price was for UK Mainland only? I can understand their annoyance if the listing said Royal Mail for instance and no mention of a surcharge for certain areas.

Since Royal Mail does not charge extra for delivery to the Highlands & Islands, the question of a surcharge should not arise if RM is the specified mode of delivery.
It's only Parcelforce and other couriers who may charge extra.
It is certainly annoying when sellers offer Royal Mail but then say they won't deliver outside the mainland because they mistakenly believe the postage will cost them extra. (Not that this would ever excuse sending the seller nasty messages)
  • No, I didn't offer Royal Mail as a method of delivery. It was a courier, the name of which I didn't specify, but which would have been Collect+ or MyHermes, depending on which the buyer would have preferred - I had planned on asking them to give their preference with the invoice but I didn't get a chance to invoice them.

No reply from eBay as yet. I've not been able to call them as I have been working 15.5 hour shifts every day and will continue to do so for the next couple of weeks. :(

Most couriers charge more for highlands and islands. You can set up your listing to exclude non mainland parts of the UK or you can include them and give the surcharge so when the buyer pays it is automatic.

I'm afraid it looks rather like you were in the wrong in the way you listed, no wonder the buyer is cross, albeit that doesn't excuse their messages.
