Just been asked for penny for the guy!!!

 Two little lads aged about 9 outside the local Co-Op..."Penny for the guy please?"
I thought, no, that can't be right...surely they didn't just ask me for a penny for the guy...???
For a minute I felt like I had finally lost my marbles...could've swore it was only the beginning of August!
But they really did have a guy, and quite a good one at that, not the usual battered teddy with an old coat on.
So I said, "It's August, bonfire night's not till November," and one said they wanted to start early before there were too many guys and then nobody would give them any money.
I gave them £2 for their cheek...but what on earth are their parents thinking??

Ah, they've been off school for a week now, they must be bored.0

I quite admire their entrepreneurial spirit. Give it a month and they will be trying their luck carol singingThe best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0

I do too, hence the £2:) - they had quite a bit of money.
I still wouldn't be letting my own kids out with a guy at that age...in August!:)
And you're right...the carol singing will be next no doubt:D0 -
A few years back there were local kids going door to door carol singing, in September...0

LOL :rotfl:- sorry.:o
Their parents may not know, each thinking the other is being entertained elsewhere meanwhile a teenage brother gave a hand in the shed assembling it together in return for a % cut.Or they might have thought, go ahead, it'll keep you quiet for an hour and no one will be give you anything anyway -oops!

Round here they do. Usually starting in the October half term though:)
We have a lot of shops nearby and you have to run the gauntlet of about a dozen kids shouting "Penny for the guy", each with their own established "pitch"
Some of the guys are well made but many are just old teddies with coats and baseball caps on. Some kids have older brothers in attendance for protection against having their guy money nicked:)
Mind you, if you really DID give them the penny they asked you for you'd get the height of abuse:)0
