Evening
Righty... I'm struggling with Winzip. And I don't know if I'm being a dumbass, or if there is something wrong with the files.
OH's BIL sent me links to family photos he's uploaded, and has given me these instructions:
'There are many of them (about 1.5GB total) thus I had to compress photos and put them in separate archives. Each archive's size is 100Mb. Download all of them and put them in the same folder. To extract photos simply open/run the one that is named 'xxxxx.zip' - use WinZip or WinRar, I'm sure you're familiar with it
'
Errr....yeah.
So I have done just that. Downloaded all the links that he sent me, including the xxxxx.zip. Put them all into a folder onto my desktop.
Opened the xxxxx.zip one with Winzip (using the wizard) and this is what happens..:
When I get to the part of the wizard where you click 'unzip now' to a folder that you've specified, I get a new window pop up asking me to 'specify location for part 1 of the archive.' I don't know what this actually means, but what I tried was to select the folder that i want the files unzipped to go in to. It then comes up with an error message that says 'The next part of this archive (xxxxx.zip) in the location you specified (C:\.....etc) does not appear to be different from the last part that was processed. Use it anyway?'
I don't know what this means either.. :rotfl: If I click yes, it then comes up with 'Error in file #1. bad zip file offset (Error local header signature not found): disk #1 offset 4.' So, I click OK. It then says 'Would you like Winzip to try to continue with the next file?' So I click yes. It comes up with the same error message saying bad file offset but with different numbers, I assume because it's trying with a different file.
And it keeps going round like this. And I cannot unzip my files, even if I try a different folder to unzip to.
!!!!!! is going on? :rotfl: Am I being stupid?
Help!
:o:o

Right click on the first one and choose Extract Here.0

On the first what..? Link?0

Anyone...?0

The sender told you on which you should begin.0

I'm afraid Nifty is in one of his 'moods'. I think he wants you to extract by right-clicking xxxxx.zip instead of opening the folder.0

It's mean to tease the technologically impaired...!
I have right clicked the xxxxx.zip, and I don't have the option to 'extract' here'. Only open with Winzip or 'Compressed (zipped) folders'. If I choose that other option and go through the motions, I can see a load of files (but cannot see the thumbnails and cannot move/copy them) and when I click extract all files on the side, I get an error message stating 'The compressed (zipped) folder is invalid or corrupted.'
I have deleted everything and started again but still getting the same error messages whichever route I try...0 -
unzipping has been built into the operating system since vista, choose compressed folders, winzip just adds a complication you don't (normally) need.
Have you downloaded all the zips, and put them in the same folder, then tried to open number 1 (or whatever is the lowest number) in winzip?!!

My system is older than Vista..
It apparently isn't corrupt, because after downloading Winrar, I had all photos extracted within seconds. Piece of p1$$.
Won't be using Winzip again!
Thanks for the advice though!0 -
