Where do I find someone to decorate the venue?

Options
I am getting married in about 6 weeks time and there is currently a 'discussion' between me and my fiancee about decorating the venue. I'd just assumed we would decorate it ourselves, that seems to be the norm unless you choose somewhere that specialises in weddings. However, she has decided she wants us to rest and relax with friends so I have to find someone to decorate it for us. The venue themselves are happy for it to be decorated but can't offer any assistance.

Where do I even start? I have no idea what to search for, if such a service even exists in the UK etc...

If it helps, the reception is at Renishaw near Chesterfield / Sheffield.

I'm also wondering about possible costs - someone has to!

TIA!

Blimey! Looked on the Love-in-a-mist website and their packages start at a grand!

Mind you, I'm not sure that is really what we want.. We just want someone to stick a load a streamers, paper lanterns etc up for us. We already have ideas for the decorations, we really just want someone to do the leg work actually putting them up.

    Ask around family & friends?

If you were my pal & I were coming to your wedding, I'd see 'decorating your venue' as my wedding gift - it'd save me money :money:

  • If you were in London I would have obliged, this is just the sort of service that people need, and many companies think it is beneath them!

This is what I'd do. Bridesmaids / grooms men, or crafty friends.

Thanks, and I agree! The whole wedding package is fair enough if you are having a glitzy wedding in a posh hotel, ours is more modest so doesn't need all the trimmings, just someone to take the pressure off us on a day when there is enough to worry about anyway!

Asking family and friends isn't easy - the wedding is too early on the Saturday to do it on the day and many are either working or travelling on the Friday.

Will your venue agree to help if you pay for the cost of the extra staff required?

dont get me wrongbut how much decorating does the venue need?

Thinking about a typical sit down meal,I assume a hotel etc will provide the tablecloths and cutlery so decoration would be maybe a centrepiece ion each table, maybe some flowers and the putting out of the name cards if youre having a formal table plan...

Thats not that difficult and potentially someone or a couple of you going the night before to do it will take a couple of hours max...then you can go off and enjoy yourselves and relax.

Even if its a hall that you need to decorate then surely you have an obliging mother or aunt who would be able to help the night before...or even a willing mother in law with some help from a father in law....some cousins with children who could help and you pay them a fiver each!!!!the kids not the adults..

I agree "asking friends and family isn't easy"...but there are a lot of people who will be joining you both for the wedding and accepting your hospitality on the day...surely there will be a few who would willingly give up an hour each to make sure your reception venue looks good!

I also rather like the idea of including it in any gift list you have...thats an ideal opportunity to possibly get someone to do it,in lieu of a gift!

what decorations do you have that will require longer to set up?
Crikey...if youre having this much trouble finding at least someone to help with the set up whats it going to be like clearing up afterwards!
