Making Ethernet Cable wireless?

Is there any way to convert an Ethernet Cable to a wireless access point?
Here is the situation, your in a hotel room with no WIFI hotspot, in the room is a free Ethernet Cable but you have a Nokia N800 internet tablet with no Ethernet Cable connector.
Is there anything you can plug onto the end of the Ethernet Cable so you can then connect a WIFI device.
Many thanks Tony

Yes you've pretty much described a wirless router.

I'm not a networking expert by any stretch, but I've done similar things in the past...

What you are looking for is an 'Ethernet Bridge'

There are a few devices around that can do this, the Asus 330g is one of a few that I have used in the past (in fact it currently connects my PVR to my network via wifi).

The software side of the setup could be tricky to get working though - but it'll keep the boredom away in the hotel room!

Alternatively the AirborneDirect Ethernet Bridge from dpactech.com should work also.

You *might* persuade a normal wireless router to do the job but you need it to collect IP addresses from upstream which could be tricky for the WiFi port.

If its a WAN router than it should grab an address via DHCP ( most hotels allocate this way )

    is nice and small.

The answer is in the question. no matter what you call them, Wireless access points or wireless routers or wireless bridge they all do he same job of giving a wired network wireless.

your problem is that you normally need to configure them before you can connect to the wirelessly therefore need a wired network port.

I think the bridge looks the way forward to me and from what I can see it has security on it so I'm not making the hotels network unsafe.
It looks to me like its totally stand alone, you just plug the network cable in then use a browser to set it up (security etc) and your off. And I assume once its set up I can just plug it into anyones network and my device will connect straight away.
I can set it up at home using my laptop if needed, then its good to go.
